Foster abundant fisheries and oceans

Why

Climate change and overfishing are straining fisheries and ocean ecosystems around the world, putting nutrition, livelihoods and biodiversity at risk.

Goal

By 2030, fisheries that comprise 60% of the projected 2050 global catch are more climate resilient.

Impact

  • 500 million people — including small-scale and subsistence fishers, women and Indigenous peoples — have enough to eat and their livelihoods are secure.
The Work in Action

EDF has led efforts on sustainable fishing in Europe, Japan, the U.S. and elsewhere. With partners in Indonesia, the Philippines and Latin America, we are developing community-driven models for managing small-scale fishing.
