Roughly 1.7 billion people live in places where unsustainable water use threatens water security. Climate change is increasing the risk.

All major regions in the U.S. are at or near sustainable water use levels by 2030. China, India, Mexico and South America each have at least one priority region with sustainable groundwater management in place.

  • At least 600 million people benefit from more resilient groundwater basins.
  • Agriculture is more sustainable.
  • Ecosystems grow healthier.
  • Communities thrive.
The Work in Action

EDF joined with NASA and others on a new way to manage scarce water supplies using satellites. With the Gila River Indian Community south of Phoenix and other partners, EDF helped finalize a historic agreement to conserve Colorado River water.
